microaggressions

The newest "politically correct" topic to hit the news and campus' near you

It happens

I completely agree

I've been subjected to it

And done it myself

The issue isn't in trying to correct it or point it out or have people censor themselves

It's actually VERY simple

Everyone needs to be trained in mindfulness

Stop

Listen to what you are about to say

Would you like something similar said to you?

In a way that would make sense to you

For sample

You as a white person might ask a black person

"Do you like rap? Or play basketball?"

Could be translated to

Them asking you

"Do you like Trump?  Do you like country music?"

See how it doesn't make sense?

Maybe you do. Maybe they do.

My point is

Don't do or say anything you wouldn't want done/said to you

And do do/say what you would want done/said to you

Like for example

Please

Thank you

Let me help you with that

Don't take first

Give first

If we are to really be a change for good

we must start with ourselves

Not with trying to change others

And the first change we must make

Is in being mindful

Very very simple

And yet

Possible hard

At first.

To train oneself

To be in tune

To other people's needs

Instead of just our own

A very different way to live

But a very rewarding one

Really

Give it a try and see
