you my American people

To my white folk
Police in the US are on pace to kill (the sum total of) one black person a day

That's one
For each day for all of this year (thus far)

Can that be said of any other race?

I don't know, possibly so (but racially aren't Mexicans still checked off as white)

But that statistic is sad

No matter what they did

Do they deserve to have died this way?

Can it be truly justified?

If you say yes

Than you obviously haven't seen the videos

Heard the pleas

Seen the violence against them

It simply isn't right

No matter how you look at it

And I realize it's never black and white

And there's never an easy answer

But let's please all find our humanity

In this situation

To my black folks

Maybe what they want
Is to keep you distracted with the hate
Maybe the media is spurring you on
Maybe they want it to be about the racial divide
And not about the economy
Not about the lack of jobs
Not about the inequality of you me schools, your opportunities
Not about the poverty that plagues a high percentage of you
No.....
Direct your anger at people that can legally kill you
But can't do a thing to change your life for the better
That can not affect policy
That keep you opressed
You should be angry at the government
You should be angry at the system
That pits you against anyone it feels like
Each other
Whites
Cops
Let's not buy into it

These cops aren't on some death spree
They are just being cops
Doing the best they can
Do they need a lot more training
Hell yes

But they are victims to
Of this never ending plot
To hate
Hate yourself
Hate the world
Hate your neighbor
Hate the traffic
Hate the crime
One thing after another
Just when you think you're done worrying
Another comes along

Just stop buying into it
Start coming at everything.
With love
With patience
With kindness
With humility
And you'll see
The world is a lot different
Than what you imagine
