Hawaii

What is it about Hawaii

that immediately makes you want to live there?
Isn't it the soul of the land
the soul of its people
a feeling beyond words that engulfs one the minute one exits the plane (boat/jet/what have you)
it's indescribable
and very powerful

and yet, what have we done to their people
the same we did to the indians
take their land
commercialize their culture for profit
until their way of life
was nothing but a tourist attraction
or an anecdotal note

Is it true that in old times when women were menstruating
they were sent to a hut by the ocean
away from their family
until they were done
take me back there someone
that would be my holy grail
living in Hawaii
off of the land
with a beautiful
loving culture
full of dance and song
and deep, loving, community
where I get 2-7 days a month to chill by the beach
Wahhoooo!!!
Where's a time machine?  I could pass.....
